Armenian greetings and polite words

Every conversation in Armenia starts with these words. Listen to a native speaker and say them aloud after the recording.

Good to know

  • Բարև is a friendly “hi”; բարև ձեզ is the polite “hello”. In the morning people say բարի լույս, in the evening բարի երեկո.
  • Շնորհակալություն is “thank you”; in conversation you will often hear the short մերսի. Խնդրեմ means both “please” and “you’re welcome”.
  • To apologise, say ներողություն, կներեք or ներեցեք.

  • Բարի ճանապարհ։Bari djanaparh
    Have a safe trip.
  • Լավ մնացե՛ք։Lav mnatseq
    Stay well (formal).
  • Շատ ուրախ եմ քեզ տեսնել։Shat urakh em qez tesnel
    I am very glad to see you.
  • ՀԵտո կհանդիպենք։Heto khandipenq
    See you later.

  • Մինչև վաղը։Minchev vaghe
